Producers; the cornerstone in music. Without a good beat, is a song even worth listening to? Today we count down the top one hundred hip hop producers of all time.
That was a video I had uploaded roughly four times; but had to keep remaking due to extraneous factors.
Also, YouTube randomly decided to block, and then unblock, and then again block the previous list; so I just might as well make a new one. Plus that list needed to be updated anyways, so I guess it works out.
This is probably the final version of the list I will make.
Just because an act may not have appeared on this list DOES NOT mean that they are bad by any means. This list was very difficult to make and it came down to splitting hairs and nitpicking. I respect it if anyone has a different list because this list is mine, and mine alone. My list is not better than your list.
For my methodology
-Quality of the beat (90% of this list was focused on this aspect)
-Sonic diversity
-If a producer has any classic albums to their name (“Donuts”, “Endtroducing…”, etc.)
-How iconic and important the beat is (this was my least important criteria)
-I also tried to include fewer rapper/producers as well.
I’ve learned a lot more since I made that first list; thanks to a lot of help from commenters and my own research.
Growing up listening to Kanye West helped blossom my love for hip hop & music as a whole. His unique, iconic, & soulful approach to production, along with this charismatic & witty rapping are what make his music so special to me.
He isn’t the only producer who’s beats I became enamored with; DJ Premier, Madlib, Statik Selektah, Salaam Remi, and most recently RZA (among others) have become some of my favorite beat smiths.
Be sure to let me know who your favorite producers are! It was already hard enough to make this list with 100 names, and I had to leave some great producers off of; but I’m pretty confident in this list.
The list in its entirety along with the songs used will be in the pinned comment. Spoil the list for yourself!!
Yes I did just recycle most of the songs from the prior list; I’m just tired of remaking this video.
Also I’ve said a million times already (and will continue to say it), I am an unoriginal copycat. I will never take credit for ideas and editing techniques that I did not come up with.
Please, like, share, and subscribe for more music related content! I do cover more than just hip hop y’know!
